Poundbury Cyclesport has been open two years, we opened in March of 2010 - a new shop to start a new decade in the lovely county of Dorset, England. Its location in Poundbury, on the outskirts of Dorchester, is perfect for the cycle enthusiast. Off-road mountain biking is never far away, and the small roads and laneways of southwest Dorset call out to be explored by bicycle - the Dorset scenery and challenging terrain never disappoints. For the casual tourer, aspiring racer or fast club rider there are numerous clubs in the area.
Poundbury Cyclesport was founded by good friends, cycling companions and former co-workers:
- Darren Matthews - Local man, master wheel-builder and cycle mechanic who loves nothing better than to cycle be it road or mountain bike.
- Heidi Gould - Raised in Dorchester, a keen mountain biker and road cyclist who brings that feminine touch to the shop.
- Joe Diomede - New Yorker, long-distance cycle tourer, lover of small people-friendly businesses.
It is hoped that Poundbury Cyclesport can add a different dimension to the ever-growing cycling world which already exists in the Dorset area.
Our workshop facilities enable us to service any make or model of bicycle.
We are one of a handful of Orbea only dedicated stores in the UK. Orbea are well known for holding Olympic gold medals with Samuel Sanchez in road racing and Julien Absalon in cross country. The worker-owned cooperative of Orbea bikes - based in the heart of the Pyrenees in northern Spain - brings a touch of the European passion for cycling into the heart of Dorset.
Darren has nearly 15 years experience in the bicycle trade. We fully stand behind the products we sell, supported by the excellent warranties and guarantees given by Orbea bikes.
Joe has been busy writing a book called Cycles of a Traveler for the last year or so, full of exciting stories and tales from his travels around the world.
